The Happiest Baby program teaches new parents a step-by-step approach to help all infants sleep longer and soothe even the fussiest baby in minutes. The program is based on the landmark research of Dr. Harvey Karp, Assoc. Professor of Paediatrics at UCLA, and initially developed out of his interest in the fact that colic and unexplained persistent crying is virtually non-existent in most non-western cultures.
Besides loving their babies like crazy, new parents have two main jobs when it comes to caring for new babies: feeding them successfully and calming them when they cry. Many resources are available to help mothers avoid and overcome feeding problems, but parents of crying babies can often feel abandoned. Yet waves of crying can erode a parent’s confidence and lead to breast feeding problems, marital stress and postpartum depression.
A Happiest Baby workshop can help any parent become as skilled as the world's best baby calmer… and helps all babies sleep an extra 1-2 hours/night.
A workshop covers such topics as:
-
The Missing 4th Trimester: it may sound odd, but many babies cry because, in an important way, they are born 3 months too son
-
The Calming Reflex: the virtual off-switch that all babies are born with.
-
The 5 S’s: the 5 simple techniques that activate the calming reflex.
Parents will also learn:
-
Why the idea that colic is due to wind is an old wives tale.
-
Why keeping the house quiet is often upsetting to newborns.
-
Why most babies get more upset in the evening.
-
Why it’s impossible to spoil babies.
-
An easy way to help babies sleep a few more hours at night.
-
Why fathers are often the best calmers in the family.
Workshops run for approximately two hours and are held regularly at the Confident Birth & Wellbeing Clinic in Tuggeranong. Private one-on-one workshops in your home can also be arranged. A Happiest baby workshop is $280 and includes an instructional DVD, a Soothing Sounds CD and other take home resources.
